Dr. Gowan’s clinical experience has been characterized by a broad diversity of settings and populations. Having had opportunities to provide individual and group psychotherapy to children, adolescents, adults and families has given her exposure to a spectrum of levels of care, presenting concerns, diagnoses, developmental stages, and cultural backgrounds. Dr. Gowan’s areas of clinical focus and expertise include anxiety and mood disorders, grief and bereavement, problems related to adjustment and identity development, family of origin issues and relationship difficulties. Dr. Gowan embraces an authentic, warm and collaborative style in her therapeutic approach. Her objective is to create a safe, nonjudgmental and supportive space that helps to facilitate growth, insight and healing. Dr. Gowan incorporates a variety of therapeutic modalities into her treatment, including cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), stress management & relaxation techniques, mindfulness, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). Dr. Gowan graduated with a Master’s degree from the Lesley University Clinical Mental Health Counseling program and with a Doctoral degree from William James College. Dr. Gowan is currently available to provide services to adult patients.
