Your deductible is the amount you pay out-of-pocket for healthcare services before your health insurance starts to share the cost. Once you’ve met your deductible, your insurance will begin to share the cost of your care with you. Until your deductible for the year is satisfied, you are responsible for the full cost of some services.

  • We don’t know what the exact cost will be for your services until a claim is returned by your insurance company outlining how much you owe us for your services. We can provide you with an estimate based on general trends with your insurance company, but this is not a guarantee of cost.
  • The deductible resets annually and commonly resets on January 1 st . You may owe more for sessions early in the year if your deductible has not yet been satisfied. Your plan may run on a service year instead of calendar year.
  • As your deductible includes care costs from all of your providers, not just us, it is important for you to monitor where you stand with your insurance company.
  • When you select your health insurance plan, there are different tiered plan options with deductibles ranging from low deductible ($500-$1,500) to high deductible (as high as $7,000+).
  • Many plans have both an individual deductible and a family deductible. The individual deductible is related to just your healthcare costs, whereas the family deductible includes everyone who is on the insurance plan. Once one of these deductibles is met for the year, your cost sharing with the insurance company will kick in.
  • Coinsurance: If your plan has a cost sharing model with the insurance company, you may have a coinsurance due for services. This is a percentage of the cost you are responsible for, and the insurance company covers the rest.
  • Out-of-pocket maximum: Insurance plans will sometimes set an annual limit on out-of-pocket expenses you are responsible for. This can include deductibles, coinsurance payments, or copayments depending on your plan. Once this is met, the insurance company will cover your portion of your healthcare expenses.

Most insurance companies have a member portal you can register for that shows you real time information on what your insurance has allocated towards your deductible. You can also contact member services on the back of your insurance card to learn more about your plan.
