William “Bill” Hirschaut LICSW, SAC, SSW
Psychotherapist
I have worked in human services for the past 49 years. Thirty years of my experience have been dedicated to forming connections with at-risk youth and adolescents who were in need of support. I held many roles which included inpatient and school social worker, school adjustment counselor, and program director for a DCF short-term behavioral and family reunification placement program for teens. More recently, I have worked with individuals confronted with symptoms of trauma, both in groups of survivors, and individuals recovering from the effects. I have performed crisis intervention with diverse populations; navigating crisis situations that require an increased level of support. Since being introduced to family work in 2000, I have expanded to couples work and have focused on couples and individuals facing life adjustment and transition challenges. These transitions are often vulnerable points in life where old challenges present new opportunities for growth and/or stress. My approach is largely based in balancing logic, emotion, and motivation. My approach incorporates the systems impacting the individual, driven by the belief in finding balance through the therapeutic approaches of Relational, Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). My experience has shown these approaches to be practical based on conflict between logic and the emotion that can be created under stress.
