About

Dr. Cannon is a licensed psychologist who specializes in psychological and neuropsychological testing as well as in treating a wide range of mental health conditions through psychotherapy. Whether he is working with someone for therapy or testing and assessment, Dr. Cannon views the relationship between himself and his clients to be of greatest importance and he strives to create an environment of support, compassion, and non-judgment. Dr. Cannon believes that strong relationships are built by deeply knowing, understanding, and respecting his clients and their struggles. No matter what you are experiencing, big or small, he would be honored to work with you.

Outside of work, Dr. Cannon enjoys spending time with his family, including his wife, son, their two cats (Phoebe and Scout), and their Australian Shepherd (Sophie). He also enjoys woodworking, reading and collecting books, playing a variety of musical instruments, and spending time in nature.

Neuropsychological testing focused on issues related to (but not limited to):

  • Concerns related to difficulties with attention and concentration (e.g., ADHD)
  • Concerns related to cognitive or mental functioning
  • Psychodiagnostic and personality evaluations to assess general emotional difficulties or to provide diagnostic clarification
  • Bariatric evaluations/Pre-surgery evaluations

Psychotherapy focused on depression, anxiety, ADHD, relationship problems, grief and loss, trauma, questions of spirituality, meaning and purpose, and life transitions.

Treatment Approach

Dr. Cannon specializes in the use of mindfulness-based psychotherapy, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). In addition to the use of ACT and DBT, Dr. Cannon also integrates techniques from emotion focused therapy, narrative therapy, and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT).

Qualifications

Dr. Cannon graduated summa cum laude from the University of New Hampshire in 2012 with a B.A. in Psychology. From there, he earned a dual M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Social Psychology from Ball State University in 2015 and his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Ball State University in 2019. Dr. Cannon completed his predoctoral internship training at Aspire Health Alliance in Quincy, MA and McLean Hospital Southeast in Middleborough, MA. He then completed his postdoctoral residency at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, MA, where his training focused on psychosocial rehabilitation.
